3M™ Nextel™ Ceramic Textiles have excellent thermal properties for use in high temperature automotive applications. Flexible, comformable and easily sewn into blankets or other configurations, Nextel™ Ceramic Fabrics are the solution for many high temperature problems.

Automotive Applications Ideas
Race car drivers have discovered 3M™ Nextel™ Fabrics and composite materials really make a difference in their comfort and their car's performance:

  • Thermal Barriers: Race car drivers routinely face ambient cockpit temperatures of 115° F (46° C) or more and floorboard temperatures hot enough to boil water. Lightweight 3M™ Nextel™ Thermal Barriers effectively block heat before it gets into the vehicle. Tested during the 1999 season on NASCAR Winston Cup and Craftsman Truck Series vehicles, Nextel™ Thermal Barriers are now used on Winston Cup, Busch Grand National and Craftsman Truck vehicles to reduce driver compartment temperature.

  • Spark Plug Boot Insulators: 3M™ Nextel™ Spark Plug Boot Insulators are engineered specifically to stand up to extremely high temperatures and repeated handling. These insulators retain their strength and flexibility at temperatures above 2000° F (1093°C), shrug off oil and grease and, unlike fiberglass sleeves, fit snugly around the spark plug wire and boot.
