BRIGHT IDEA - Portable Easel
Task each student or team with finding textures in the environment (things that are soft, hard, rough, smooth, bumpy or flat) and drawing those objects on an Easel Pad. Back in the classroom, have the students stick up their artwork (almost any surface will do) and discuss the objects and textures they drew.
